What Meta-approved means for Instagram automation tools
Updated:
A Meta-approved tool is one that sends your DMs through Meta’s official API, after Meta has reviewed the app and verified the company behind it. That is what keeps your account safe. The “Meta Business Partner” badge is a separate program on top, and it is a marketing designation, not a safety requirement.
The official API is what matters
Meta’s official API is how a tool sends DMs without your password. You connect your account through a Meta login window, and you can remove the tool’s access at any time.
Tools that ask for your Instagram password work differently, and Instagram warns against them. Its help center (opens in a new tab) says apps that take your login details “can gain complete access to your account”, and that your account “may be disabled or terminated”. Instagram’s restriction reasons (opens in a new tab) list giving your password to a third-party app as one cause.
App Review and Advanced Access
Before a tool can work for accounts it does not own, Meta has to approve it. Meta calls this level Advanced Access, and getting it requires App Review (opens in a new tab) and Business Verification.
For Instagram DMs, Meta reviews the specific permission that lets an app send messages for your account. A tool you can sign up for and connect today has passed that review, or it could only message its own team.
Tech Provider
A Tech Provider is a company that Meta has verified so its app can access other businesses’ data. Meta’s Tech Provider page (opens in a new tab) describes it as a technical verification, separate from App Review.
Some tools advertise themselves as a “Meta Verified Tech Provider”. We could not find that capitalized phrase on any Meta page, only “verified as a Tech Provider”. Treat it as the vendor’s own wording for a real verification.
Meta Business Partner
Meta Business Partners is an application program for agencies and software companies, with a badge for those accepted. Meta’s program rules (opens in a new tab) require a verified business. They also forbid partners from implying that Meta “endorses, sponsors, or is responsible for” their services.
So the badge tells you a company met Meta’s criteria for a category. It does not mean Meta recommends its product, and tools without it can be just as safe.
Which tools claim what
Every tool we track says it uses Meta’s official API. Fewer claim the Business Partner badge. Several smaller apps describe themselves as Meta Tech Providers instead, which we count as no badge claim.

We could not check the claims ourselves. Meta’s partner directory showed a login wall when we visited it, and we found no Meta page explaining how a buyer can confirm a listing.
How to check a tool before you connect it
- Look at the login screen. Connecting should open a Meta or Instagram login window, not a form on the tool’s own site.
- Never share your password. No official tool needs it.
- Read the permission request. Meta’s screen lists what the tool can do, such as manage messages.
- Check that you can disconnect. Official tools appear in your Instagram settings under connected tools, where you can remove access.
- Ask the vendor about App Review. A serious vendor can tell you which Meta permissions it holds.
Questions people ask
Is ManyChat approved by Meta?
ManyChat says it is a Meta Business Partner and uses the official API. SendPulse makes the same claim, and so do Chatfuel and respond.io. We could not confirm any listing in Meta’s partner directory, because it requires a Facebook login.
Can an Instagram automation tool get my account banned?
Tools that use Meta’s official API work within Meta’s rules. Tools that ask for your password, or automate your account without Meta’s permission, are named by Instagram as a reason accounts get restricted.
Is a Meta Business Partner safer than other tools?
Not by itself. The badge shows a company met Meta’s program criteria. Safety comes from the official API and Meta’s App Review, which every tool on this page says it uses.
